Impersonation & Email Scams

📧📧📧

I've become aware of an increase in suspicious emails circulating throughout the writing and publishing community, including messages from individuals claiming to be established authors, literary agents, editors, and publishing professionals. Unfortunately, scammers are getting increasingly sophisticated, sometimes using the names, photographs, websites, and professional credentials of real people to make their messages appear legitimate.

With that in mind, I wanted to share a quick reminder about how to recognize official correspondence from me.

All legitimate professional emails from me will come from an address ending in @saraheburr.com.

I do not conduct author business or professional correspondence through Gmail, AOL, Yahoo, or other personal email providers. If you receive a message from someone claiming to be me using one of these services, please treat it with extreme caution.

I will never ask you to provide passwords, financial information, or other sensitive personal details through an unsolicited email. If someone contacts you claiming to represent me and something doesn't feel right, please verify the message through my official website at www.saraheburr.com before responding.

The writing and reading communities are built on trust, kindness, and genuine connections. It's disheartening that some people are willing to exploit those relationships, but a little awareness can go a long way toward keeping our community safe.

Please feel free to share this reminder with your fellow readers and writers. Let's keep looking out for one another. Stay safe, stay bookish, and happy sleuthing! 💜
